Celebrating Hartenberg’s Success in the 2024
Tim Atkin Report
We’re overjoyed to share some wonderful news!
Three of our wines – The Eleanor Chardonnay 2022, The Stork Shiraz 2020, and Gravel Hill Syrah 2020 – were awarded a remarkable 95 points in the 2024 Tim Atkin Special Report, placing them among the top 10% of all wines tasted. The achievement is furthered underscored by all three wines being recognized as one of the Wines of the Year in their categories.
Here’s a glimpse of what makes these wines so special, according to Tim Atkin:
Gravel Hill Syrah 2020: “The Cornas of the Cape, a bold, intense, richly concentrated Syrah with considerable structure, concentration, and inky depths. Curated in 50% new wood, it’s a wine that will definitely reward patience. Meaty, earthy, and chewy, with garrigue and fynbos aromas, black olive, fig, and plum skin flavours, and enough acidity to freshen the finish.”
The Stork Shiraz 2020: “The Stork only uses the SH99 Syrah clone and comes from a terroir of deep clay loam. Rich, compact, and serious, it’s a very ambitious, age-worthy red with fynbos and violet aromas, scented 40% new wood, textured tannins, liquorice, blackberry, and redcurrant flavours, and a lingering finish.”
The Eleanor Chardonnay 2022: “The Eleanor is a magnificent bottle of Chardonnay from Carl Schultz in 2022. Fermented in 30% new French oak, this comes from a single parcel planted with the CY95 clone and is engagingly focused, pithy, and nuanced, with nutmeg, struck match, and fynbos aromas, citrus and lemongrass flavours, and a salty undertone.”
