Since Carl's first vintage at Hartenberg in 1993 he realized the distinct difference in the character and quality of a parcel of Syrah vineyard at the lower end of the Estate with extraordinary characteristics.
All these elements make for a unique red wine, shouting sense of place, true to terroir.
The Eleanor – Chardonnay | 2023
Bright lemon notes, yellow apples, and a hint of toastiness introduce this expressive Chardonnay. The palate is beautifully creamy on entry, balanced by a crisp, lingering finish. Flavours of ripe yellow apple carry through, lifted by a touch of gooseberry tartness. A stalwart of top South African Chardonnays, with the promise of even greater complexity over time.
The Mackenzie – Bordeaux Style | 2022
Aromas of plum, cranberry, and raspberry layer subtle fynbos and mocha. The palate is richly textured, revealing concentrated dark fruit. Refined tannins carry through to a long, poised finish.
The Megan – Rhône Style Red Blend | 2020
Bright ruby in colour, bursting with aromas of fresh cherries, blackberries, and lifted spice, layered with sage and lavender freshness. The palate is bright and juicy, echoing the same vibrant fruit and summer herbs. Fine, well-integrated tannins add a satisfying crunch, carried by a fresh, lifted finish. Perfectly served at 16°C as a refreshing summer red.
The Stork – Shiraz | 2021
Deep, bright ruby red, leaping from the glass with a bold bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, and hints of thyme buchu layered with warm spices and a subtle meaty note. Concentrated and dense flavours burst on the palate with textured black fruits and fragrant renosterbos (an endemic shrub with an earthy scent), finishing fresh, lifted, and lingering.
