A visit to Hartenberg isn’t complete without settling in for a tasting. Set on our historic wine farm in Stellenbosch, our tasting room offers a relaxed, guided experience of the wines grown in our regenerative vineyards.
You’ll taste a thoughtful selection – from fresh, expressive estate wines to rare older vintages and our flagship Gravel Hill Syrah, one of South Africa’s most distinctive Syrahs. There’s often a surprise in the line-up too: a mystery wine poured in a black glass, or something special pulled from deep in the cellar.

Lunch at the Eatery
Our food is made with intention: honest, seasonal, and ingredient-led. We’re not a restaurant – we’re a working farm that loves to cook. We serve lunch as we would to friends: a glass of wine, something delicious on the plate, and time to enjoy it.

Picnics at Hartenberg
In keeping with our love for the land, we’ve moved away from single-use packaging when serving picnics. Our picnic platters consist of a selection of local charcuterie and cheeses, Eleanor’s famous snoek pâté, seasonal accompaniments and artisan breads.

Enjoy a tutored tasting of our Signature and vintage wines, hosted in the Vinoteque of our Underground Cellar.
Best time to visit: April to December. During harvest, our Chardonnay ferments in the Underground Cellar.

Adventure with a helicopter tour to Hartenberg
For a truly immersive experience, arrive at Hartenberg Wine Estate via a scenic helicopter flight with Cape Town Helicopters. Explore a range of activities, from wine tastings to cellar tours, and savour a delightful meal at their restaurant.
Booking Lead Time:
To secure your Hartenberg Wine Estate flight, please book at least 48 hours in advance to obtain landing permissions.
The Hartenberg Wine Estate, Cape Town Helicopters Flight Package includes:
A private helicopter flight to and from Hartenberg Wine Estate
A half-day experience at Hartenberg, featuring wine tasting and lunch
Helicopter Flight Time:
V&A Waterfront to Hartenberg Wine Estate (Approximately 20 minutes)
Hartenberg Wine Estate back to V&A Waterfront (Approximately 20 minutes)
Ground Time: Allow approximately 2.5 to 3 hours at Hartenberg Wine Estate.
Total Winelands Flight Experience:
It will take approximately 3-4 hours in total. Please note that Cape Town Helicopters reserves the right to return the helicopter to the base if operationally required, with collection from Hartenberg Wine Estate arranged at an appointed time.
